The patio is not a patio if it does not have some sort of cover to protect it from the elements. With no cover it is simply a porch or deck. There are several ways to go when you are deciding on patio covers but they can be assembled fairly easily with simple hand tools, serve nicely to protect your deck or patio and add a touch of class to your home. Patio covers will also give you and your family a place to get out of the sun or weather and still enjoy the day.
The most commonly used and popular patio cover is the Arbor style. This style looks like a simple framework of metal, usually aluminum because of its light weight and anti-corrosion properties, or it can be wood. They can be used as trellises for climbing plants and it is very easy to hang plants from the framework. This allows you to protect yourself from the hot sun or rain while at the same time giving you the experience of being inside a botanical garden.
Another option that is very popular is the patio umbrella. These are popular because they can be easily set up or taken down and moved from place to place. There are several styles of patio umbrella like hanging umbrellas or umbrellas’ that are shaped like canopies that cover much larger areas. These umbrellas will usually not cover the entire area, especially if you have a large patio or deck but they can be moved easily.
Some people even go to the extent of having the entire patio covered and actually create another room to the home. In this case, however, the sides of the patio have French doors that can all be opened at once leaving the area well protected but still open and breezy. This is probably the most expensive so if you are on a budget you might want to settle for a less expensive alternative.
